So Christmas has been and gone away for another year now. I hope you all had a great time celebrating and spending time with your families. I thought I would follow on from my Christmas list post with a selection of my best presents, which I’m hoping to get a lot of use out of in 2015. So if you want to find out, or have a bit of money left over after the holiday season here are some items which I think would be good to get.
So this made it from my Christmas list to under the tree, I obviously had been a very good boy. So far I have only used it a handful of times because I have been very busy with work. However I am extremely impressed with it, it definitely is an upgrade to my previous 18-55mm lens but also now having two lenses going from 18-300mm I have a span capable for almost every situation that I will be photographing. I also got a couple of books on how to improve my photography so hopefully there will be an improvement throughout the year in the ‘photo of the day’ pictures!
With an amazon voucher I was able to get a new camera bag for my DSLR to accommodate my camera, both lenses, and other camera accessories. I wanted a bag that would look understated, I don’t like carrying around bags which don’t look good or just scream ‘I have expensive camera equipment inside steal me’. So the bag I selected was a water-resistant canvas satchel bag. It definitely doesn’t look like a camera bag, however it fits by equipment perfectly with loads of padding. I was a bit sceptical ordering off the internet having not seen it in the flesh, however using the supplied measurements I was confident it would fit my equipment. It also had fantastic reviews and as it was a lot cheaper than some camera bags I think it was fantastic value for money.
Cycling is synonymous with coffee; lucky for me I enjoy drinking it a lot. So this is probably my favourite present, definitely the one which will be getting used every day. I was lucky enough to receive the Bosch Tassimo T12 coffee machine. It’s not hugely expensive and more importantly it doesn’t cost a lot to run with the coffee pods very cheap when bought in bulk. There is also such a vast array of coffee and other hot drinks that it can make it really is an all in one machine. I currently have tried the Costa coffee Americano pods which is almost like having your own costa coffee in your own home, without the large price. I also like to have an espresso every morning, which from this machine taste wonderful. I will definitely recommend this to any other coffee lovers out there; I honestly don’t know how I have got by without this so far.
Emergency Phone Charger
This present was a little stocking filler which my mum got for free at a conference however I think it will come in very useful during adventures and expeditions. Most people are more reliant on their smart phones now, when it can be used for blogging, tweeting, photography. Therefore keeping it fully charged is almost a necessity. This little extra battery charges through a USB port and can provide great emergency charge to your smartphone. It can pretty much fully charge my iPhone from empty, which is definitely invaluable as it effectively doubles the battery life of your phone. Or alternatively could be used on a cycle tour as you can charge this battery via a dynamo hub and power your phone indefinitely (as long as your wheels are moving).
Chris Hoy Autobiography
One of the cycling greats, he was awarded a lifetime achievement award this year at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He comes across on TV as a very likeable person and one who has had unequalled success at track cycling. I am therefore looking forward to reading this book. I’ll write a review once I’ve finished it.
These are my top five items; I’m really looking forward to using them as I think they are all really great. I am really looking forward to the coming year and what it has in store. All the best to you all in 2015.
